i’ve seen a couple of posts petitioning against the yulin festival, but i have yet to have seen one made by an actual chinese person

the problem here lies within the fact that people are taking the opportunity to exacerbate the whole racist trope of “chinese people are sick and eat our fluffy cuddly pets just for fun” instead of actually trying to understand our culture and how this phenomenon occurred in the first place. consumption of dog meat began due to a number of reasons (not just in china, but in a myriad of other countries), some of those being beliefs about its health benefits, but also most importantly because people were forced to resort to this during periods of starvation and war-time

while i personally do not advocate for animal slaughter in any form, i also want to remind people that trying to force westernized views and concepts on countries that they virtually know nothing about is nothing short of embarrassing and ignorant. it would be wise to take a minute to research the topic or speak to someone who is actually of that country before demonizing an entire population for their supposed evils when your very concept of evil could have been warped by xenophobic and racist ideologies

I read that the dogs are cooked whilst sill alive and that dogs are snatched from the streets when they might be someone’s pet…. Might not be true but if so……

how did you miss the entire point of this post? or better yet, what compelled you to intentionally ignore all of the things I listed above just to add your unwarranted commentary? the only reason I can think of is that you are so set on denying Chinese people the right to voice their concerns about the potential and often sinisterly disguised racism that arises when Westerners decide to speak about issues and topics that other countries face–therefore meaning that, whether or not you realize it, you also have racism ingrained in your own thought process as well.
moreover, do you not think that there are no Chinese animal activists protesting against this? or do you think that every Chinese person (of which there are more than 1 billion) shares a unanimous view of the world? because if so, I’m sorry to tell you that dozens of groups (such as the Chinese Animal Protection Network) have been fighting to shut down the festival for years, and I think they have hell of a lot more knowledge and understanding of our country and its issues than Ricky Gervais or any of these other white men have to say. Let us fight our own battles and keep your uninformed opinions to yourself
